Happy Friday my darlings. I know I have been nonexistent lately. This life transition is proving to be a bit difficult, but difficult in a blissful, beautiful, crazy way. Much love.

The Journey of Life & Books

There is a Buddhist proverb which resonates deeply with me: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Teachers can be in any form – humans, songs, blogs, film, books, poems, photography, etc. My teachers are often in the form of book. I love that special moment when I read the first couple of pages and know my life will forever be changed.

“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”

Books that have impacted my life and led me on my spiritual journey (in no particular order)…

1. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

2. The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho

3. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

4. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

5. The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz

6. Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman

7. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

8. The Art of Happiness by Dalia Lama & Howard C. Cutler

9. The Happiness Project by Gretchin Rubin

Life is not a “to do” list

Happy March my darlings. Can you believe it’s already March!

Last week I posted about slowing down and enjoying life. This thought has resonated deeply with me, maybe it’s due to the fact that I am currently reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. From the instant I picked up the book I have been inspired. If you haven’t read the book, read it! “Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus.”The days are long, but the years are short,” she realized. “Time is passing, and I’m not focusing enough on the things that really matter.” In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.”

I have decided to have a monthly mantra; a goal or a group of goals that I wish to work on for the month. Inspired by the idea of slowing down and enjoying the moment, the mantra’s for March are: life is not a “to do” list, stop & smell the roses and enjoy the simple things.

Life is not a “to do” list: I love love love lists. Not only do they keep me organized, but they keep me sane as well. I have lists for everything. As soon as I am feeling a little overwhelmed or stressed I make a list. It’s just my thing, something I do. I jam pack my weekends with “to do’s” instead of just enjoying the time off and going with the flow. Crossing items off my list brings me joy, but I am so eager to cross items off my list that I am beginning to question my obsession with list making. When is enough, enough? It’s time to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Stop & smell the roses: this goal/mantra goes right along with list making. I am so eager to get to the next moment. I vow to stop and smell the roses literally this month, if there is a rose I will smell it!

Enjoy the simple things: the simple things bring me the most happiness; a walk on the beach, an amazing yoga class, good conversation, reading and drinking coffee in bed on a Saturday morning.

This Moment

I am trying to slow down, really enjoy each moment and not be so eager to arrive at the next one. This morning while writing in my journal, I had a thought; I will never be in this moment again. It will never be Thursday February 23rd in the year 2012. I will never be 30 years old, 2 months and 2 days. This exact moment will never happen again. This thought stopped me in my tracks.

Every morning I write in my journal while drinking my coffee. It’s my way of stepping into the day. This thought made the moment special even though I have done it a hundred times. The coffee tasted better. The words I wrote seemed special. As proceeded with my day and even as I write this, I remind myself that this exact moment will never happen again. I vow to savor this moment, every moment because this exact moment will never happen again.

Amazing Paths

Today I received a lovely email from one of my dear Aunt’s entitled “Amazing Paths”. The email included beautiful imagery of paths. It was just the inspiration I needed on this rainy day in San Francisco.

May the path of your life lead you to a life full of fun, adventure, love and peace.

Sources: unfortunately since I received all of the images in an email I do not know the original source or the artist of the images. If you know the source please let me know as I would love to give credit to the proper person. Thanks!

Just One Moment

I have a challenge for you.

Stop whatever you are doing.

It can wait.

It’s just one moment.

Get up.

Leave behind your phone.

It’s just one moment.

Leave behind any worries.

It’s just one moment.

Walk outside.

Look up at the sky.

It’s just one moment.

Stand there in silence.

Take a deep breath in.

Exhale slowly.

It’s just one moment.

And contemplate just how wonderful life is.
