November’s Mantra: I AM GRATEFUL!

Happy November my lovelies. How often do you practice gratitude? I try to practice gratitude daily. With Thanksgiving approaching and the horrible aftermath the East Coast is facing with super storm Sandy, it’s an appropriate time to step it up a notch. Therefore November’s Mantra is “I am grateful”.

Being grateful is a key to happiness. Being grateful lets you see what you have in a new light. Gratitude brings importance to the small things in life, opens the door to new possibilities, and brings optimism to your current situation.

At this moment what are you grateful for? Say out loud the first three things that come to mind. I am grateful for the roof over my head, my mom and my creativity.

How I will practice gratitude this month…

  1. I will make a gratitude list and add to it daily
  2. I will start to make a gratitude scrapbook
  3. I will devote 5 minutes when I wake up and before I fall asleep to meditating on gratitude
  4. I will write hand written gratitude letters to people dear to my heart

How will you practice gratitude this month? What are you grateful for today?

I am grateful for you my darling readers. Have a fabulous day… love and light, Emily

April’s Mantra: Let it Go!

Can you believe it’s already April?!? Where’s the time going?

Last month, inspired by The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, I introduced the idea of a monthly mantra. April’s mantra is LET IT GO. As I write this I am still not sure how to let go. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have a better idea.

My plan to LET IT GO…

  1. 3 week gentle cleanse
  2. Restart my yoga practice. I vow to do a downward dog every day and go to 2 classes a week.
  3. Purge & go through my belongings. I plan on going through all of my material belongings and having a yard sale at the end of the month.
  4. Forgive and let go of the pain others have caused me. This is a hard one. I am going to write letters to the people who have hurt me, done me wrong or that I have ill feelings towards. I will not send the letters. It’s just an exercise to express how I feel.

Please feel free to join me this month with letting go. Or let me know any other useful tips on letting go. Wish me luck. xoxox.

Life is not a “to do” list

Happy March my darlings. Can you believe it’s already March!

Last week I posted about slowing down and enjoying life. This thought has resonated deeply with me, maybe it’s due to the fact that I am currently reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. From the instant I picked up the book I have been inspired. If you haven’t read the book, read it! “Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus.”The days are long, but the years are short,” she realized. “Time is passing, and I’m not focusing enough on the things that really matter.” In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.”

I have decided to have a monthly mantra; a goal or a group of goals that I wish to work on for the month. Inspired by the idea of slowing down and enjoying the moment, the mantra’s for March are: life is not a “to do” list, stop & smell the roses and enjoy the simple things.

Life is not a “to do” list: I love love love lists. Not only do they keep me organized, but they keep me sane as well. I have lists for everything. As soon as I am feeling a little overwhelmed or stressed I make a list. It’s just my thing, something I do. I jam pack my weekends with “to do’s” instead of just enjoying the time off and going with the flow. Crossing items off my list brings me joy, but I am so eager to cross items off my list that I am beginning to question my obsession with list making. When is enough, enough? It’s time to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Stop & smell the roses: this goal/mantra goes right along with list making. I am so eager to get to the next moment. I vow to stop and smell the roses literally this month, if there is a rose I will smell it!

Enjoy the simple things: the simple things bring me the most happiness; a walk on the beach, an amazing yoga class, good conversation, reading and drinking coffee in bed on a Saturday morning.
